Waddingtons is Canada’s leading auction house, with a unique approach to Canadian art. The auction house offers a broader view of Canadian art by showcasing works by international, regional and Canadian masters. Its auctions feature iconic works by the Group of Seven, Painters Eleven, and other important Canadian artists. The company’s collections also include works by internationally renowned Inuit artists.
A recent sale of contemporary Inuit art at Waddingtons set a new world record. A sculpture by Joe Talirunili, “The Migration,” sold for $290,656, breaking the previous auction record for Inuit art. This work of art depicts the harrowing journey of survivors on a crowded skin boat through breaking ice floes to safety. Talirunili was known for exploring the theme of migration and often created depictions of the perilous journey.
